“Criticism is something we can avoid easily by saying nothing, doing nothing, and being nothing” – Aristotle

Well 2012 is up and running, hopefully you’ve been able to keep up with your resolutions that you have made. In 2012 we are wanting to be able to streamline more of the videos, blogs and posts that we create so that you don’t have to be receiving various methods emails or checking various accounts. We want to create an easier way for you to get MORE information to create change in your life. So we are not sure if you have seen one of our other video blogs called The Power of One Show.
The Power of One Show is a show that I came up with the concept for the show last year when I heard a song of the same name, by Israel Houghton, at Covenant Church. I have studied human nature and the science of success for over twenty years and realize that most of the greatest innovations we have ever enjoyed came from the imagination of one person. While it ultimately takes teamwork to make the dream truly work, most great teams are lead by a dynamic individual who has a vision.
Our show will highlight amazing leaders from virtually every walk of life that have changed the world in which they lived by their contributions. While the people featured will all have in common the fact that they are ultra high achievers, they will also amaze you with the fact that they have come from such diverse backgrounds. Then again, while their differences will be vast, the similarities that created their successes and greatness will be nearly identical. Years ago I needed to be inspired. I still need it. Much of my inspiration, then and now, comes from true stories of average people who had a dream, and who had the guts to make those dreams come true. I will share the stories that have inspired me. I think it will surprise you that many of histories greatest heroes were at one time broke and unsure of themselves. Some of them were depressed and considered themselves failures. The point is that there are thousands of more stories out there and I would love to help inspire one or two of them. To see some of this past years Power of One Shows Click Here.
Happy Holidays,
I’m sure that you, like many others, are about to make your new year’s resolutions. I have just finished doing my own! I love the feeling of winding one year down and preparing for an improved new year.
There is an unparalleled feeling of optimism in most people. The key is MAINTAINING that optimism beyond the end of January. Setting the goals is not the key…..The key is following through and ATTAINING those objectives.
Here is a video that will give you MY KEY to consistently reaching the goals I set in my New Years Resolutions.
Enjoy and have a blessed 2012
Marc
In our most recent Edutainment Weekly, Marc Accetta explores events that have contributed to our lives and have allowed us to continue to grow. Many of these events were unknown and unexplored but individuals that thought outside the box questioned, “What If”? Individuals like Henry Ford asking his group of engineers to make him a V8 engine and them telling him it’s not possible and through his persistence we now have V8 engines. We hope you enjoy this video!
When I was about 8 years old, he brought me to Yankee Stadium for the first time to make sure I saw the immortal Mickey Mantle play one time in person before he retired at the end of that season.
My dad was not happy! What the hell was wrong with his son……How could he bring me to the hallowed Yankee stadium to watch the Mick…and have me betray him like that? But that’s what happened. The A’s moved to Oakland a couple of years later and won the World Series form 1972-1974. I have been a die hard A’s fan since that fateful day in 1968.
That was definitely karmic payback for my dad!Do you consider yourself to be a leader? Leadership is one of the most overused terms in the world today. My old mentor used to say that the first thing you need to be considered a leader is… A following!
I love that! How many self professed leaders have no one following them… At least not voluntarily. You have to earn leadership; it can’t be bestowed on you. It can be, but that’s not true leadership.
Let me give you the simplest way to determine if you are a leader or not. This will also tell you how to become a leader if you realize you are not one yet.
Leaders AFFECT their environment; they are not AFFECTED by it!
Are you affected by others? When someone whines and complains do you join in? Do you just stay quiet so you don’t upset the old apple cart, or do you step up and put the whiners in their place? Leaders affect whiners! They take away their excuses. They get them to stop focusing on their adverse circumstances, stop being victims and focus on solutions!
Is that you?
When your team is underperforming and putting in less that 100% effort, do you just kinda play down to their level? Or, do you get on them and let them know that their lack of effort is unacceptable so they can play UP to you level?
Many of you are right in the middle of this right now. Your team or company is in a slump. Morale is down. What are you going to do about it?
Leadership is not easy. The main thing that it takes is guts! True leaders are not concerned with winning a popularity contest; they are concerned with getting their team to perform at a higher level than they would perform without him or her.
You know what is right in your heart. All you have to do is follow it with passion and AFFECT everyone around you to be the same way. Michael Jordan was undeniably the greatest athlete I have ever seen in my lifetime, but for the first part of his career with the Chicago Bulls, that’s all he was…A great player.
Then he learned how to AFFECT everyone on the team and make them better players! He learned how to get them to feed off his passion and greatness and play UP to his level and the rest was history!
When he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame he said, “it’s true that there is no “I” in TEAM, but there is an “I” in WIN!
Make no mistake about it, Michael Jordan AFFECTED his environment. Now it’s time for you to go affect yours!
Blessings,
Marc
This weeks video is in good fun, but it makes a good point too. That’s the whole idea of Edutainment Weekly. I hope you enjoy this clip from my trip to Amsterdam.
